Coles, one of Australia’s leading supermarkets just launched a new range of vegan meat across more than 700 of its stores.
The range is called The Alternative Meat Co., and includes plant-based burgers, mince, and sausages. Harriet Wischer, Coles category manager for BBQ says that vegan meat sales are being driven primarily by omnivores.
“Our customers are becoming more and more interested in plant-based foods, but people are not so much switching to a full vegetarian diet,” she said in a statement. “They’re substituting veggie options a couple of times a week.”
The products are made from a blend of soy, wheat, and pea protein, and are made in Australia. The Alternative Meat Co. promises an authentic “beefy” flavor, just like the Beyond Burger. It also has 20 grams of plant-based protein per patty.
